If there ever was an ideal place for mountain biking – it’s Gecko Rock. More than 40 kilometers of trails on the reserve, comprising gravel road, jeep track and spectacular single track await you.

Outside the reserve in the direction of Touwsrivier or Montagu awaits a network of broad gravel roads. One can ride for hours without seeing a car, and even then an approaching car can be heard for ten minutes in the stillness of the Karoo.

Mountain-biking is a must-do activity at Gecko Rock, even if you just bring the bikes along for a social ride on a camping weekend. Routes follow centuries-old game paths and horse trails and provide a scenic and sometimes challenging outing. Trails are well marked in relation to difficulty and those not wanting a hard ride will have no trouble in easily following the ‘green routes’.

In 2011, hosted our first mountain biking competition – a three night ride marketed under the name Star Gazer and presented by Louis and Mitzi Knipe of Makadas adventures.

Whatever your level of skill on a bike, you are sure to treasure your memories of a biking weekend at Gecko Rock. Campers have full access to all routes at no extra cost.

Day visitors charged at R50.00 per person.
